Here’s a very brief post to say that our next book fair is in Cambridge – tomorrow, the 20th February. Last week we were in Tunbridge Wells and I have been so busy I have not had a lot of time to keep this up to date. This map is from the 1690s, from the Rev. Thomas Cox’s ‘Magna Britannia’. I have always loved it for the detail of the fens. As you can see, the title has a ‘long s’, a typographical feature left over from the days of hand written scripts. It stayed in use for another fifty years or so. How times change – these days our maps are made from space. Not that we need them much, as we have talking machines called SatNavs to navigate for us. Even better, before long our carriages will drive themselves!
I would particularly like to buy a collection of old maps as I have not had any for a while. If you have any to dispose of – or books, of course – please call me on 07769 318895. Thank you.
