ANLAOB Episode 3 : The Lewes Book Fair and The Highdown Bindery

Brighton Panto at Lewes Book Fair

In this episode we visit the Lewes Book Fair, one of the best and most popular regional fairs in the country. Busy book fairs like this one are the heart of the trade and superb places for beginners and seasoned collectors to pick up some gems. There are tens of thousands of books in the room plus entire stands of gorgeous ephemera, with prices from a few pounds up to a few hundred. (Top tip: the test of a good fair is how popular it is with the trade and plenty of London dealers make the journey to Lewes – enough said!) I also consult Hannah from The Highdown Bindery about a new binding for a scrap album and find a huge Brighton Hippodrome Theatre poster from 1958. You never know what you’ll find at a book fair; there really is something for everyone and I strongly recommend a visit to Lewes and indeed the local fair in your area. One last word – keep an eye on that scrap album, we’ll be meeting it again in the new year…
